Cybersonica

Art + Technology = Success

May 2006 – 2007
Cybersonica is London’s annual festival of music, sound art and technology, and has provided the city with an international gathering of artistic and technical talent to showcase emerging, experimental new works since 2001. Supported through the years by Arts Council England and by corporate funding, the festival needed extra promotional and marketing help to increase exposure and draw attendants.

Outreach The Hai Media Group helped Cybersonica in May 2006 develop press materials that would better position the festival to more mainstream media outlets, and conducted outreach at a top tier level. Outreach to London’s leading newspapers, broadcast outlets, arts and entertainment outlets served to increase brand awareness among many journalists who were not familiar with the organization. Correspondents from The Independent, TimeOut, The Guardian and many more were impressed with the offer of about 20 original digital and sonic artworks on view at the Phonica’s Vinyl Factory Gallery for the opening night exhibition held in May 2006. The festival combined its exhibition with workshops and guest lectures held at The Science Museum’s Dana Centre, and was selected to be the debut event for the first demonstration of Guitar Hero II.

Results The mix of creative artistic talent applied to new technology won media coverage in many blogs covering art and digital culture, music outlets and several mainstream news outlets, including a radio broadcast with BBC World Service’s Digital Planet, where it was enthusiastically noted:

“This is what people should be doing with technology!”

The media attention and Hai Media Group’s effort to introduce potential sponsors to the organization succeeded in drawing interest from corporate funders with leading wireless companies, and from the music industry, including meetings with online music provider Last.FM.
